Dancing Stars of Atlanta: Local Celebrities and Ballroom Dance Professionals Team to Raise Money for Alzheimer’s Association
Ballroom Dance Clubs of Atlanta has been busy this summer hosting and taking part in ballroom dance events to show off our dancers and help our community. Several of BDC’s dancers were featured at the June 2011 Dancing Stars of Atlanta fundraiser for the Alzheimer’s Association—Michelle Rigo with celebrity Kevin Rathbun, Joshua Ingraham with celebrity Mindy Hylton, and Christjohn Batters with celebrity Sherri Adair.
The program included everything from waltzes to tangos all in the name of raising money for the Georgia Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association. Over $225,000 was raised with dancer Kevin Rathbun coming in as the second-highest earning celebrity dancer, raising over $47,000, and Atlanta Fine Homes founder Jenny Pruitt coming in first for fundraising with over $50,000.
Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin was scored highest by the judges—among them Atlanta icon Monica Pearson— while our very own Sherri Adair came in second by one point, but the Alzheimer’s Association was the real winner in this event. While the voting is over, you cans still donate to the Georgia Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association or get a DVD of the event at the Dancing Stars of Atlanta website.
We were thrilled to be able to participate in such an exciting fundraiser for a very worthy cause. Be sure to check out our video library for highlights from the event and check out our photo gallery to see moments captured from the evening.
We also opened our Duluth studio to the Metro Atlanta Match Competition on July 16th. The event was open to the public and showcased some of Atlanta’s best ballroom dancers. Make sure to check our calendars for upcoming open events like the Match Competition and follow us on Facebook and Twitter if you aren’t already.
