Coaching
While many of our students are ballroom dance novices, Ballroom Dance Clubs of Atlanta also works with many Atlanta professional and competitive dancers. We take pride in the diversity of skill levels ours students possess. Our instructors can cater a lesson to help beginners learn their first steps, or coach professional and competitive dancers throughout their careers.
If an amateur dancer is ready to take their social dancing to the next level, we are pleased to increase the level of instruction to prepare them for competitions.
For professional and competitive dancers in need of coaching and instruction for competition preparation, our instructors’ 20+ years of experience in all forms of ballroom dance can help produce award-winning dancers. Because many of our instructors are professional and competitive dancers themselves, they know the expectations of judges and audiences at ballroom dance competitions .
Guest Coaches
Ballroom Dance Clubs of Atlanta’s instructors are a wealth of knowledge when it comes to dance technique, choreography, and coaching. However, just like their students, they love the opportunity to work with visiting coaches and learn new things. Oftentimes, guest coaches visit Ballroom Dance Clubs of Atlanta to impart new knowledge and stoke the creative fires of our professional and amateur dancers!
It is empowering for our dancers and instructors to work with people that judge and run competitions every week, are current or former dance champions, and help drive the dance scene. Our guest coaches love coming to our studios because our instructors are so professional and prepared to make the coaching valuable to our students. Plus, our guest coaches love seeing our accomplished amateur dancers perform their choreography!
Just this year we’ve been visited by world-renowned guest coaches and choreographers Tamsyn Devilliers, Edward Simon, Judi Hatton, Luann Pulliam, Eric Luna, Georgia Ambarian, and Gary Pierce! Whether we’re preparing for a competition or rehearsing for a showcase, it’s the knowledge and fun that these coaches bring to ballroom dance that keeps us loving the art of dance.
Ballroom Dance Clubs of Atlanta’s Medal System
Because we tailor our private and group lessons to all dancers—from beginners to professionals—we use a medal system to identify the skills of each student. The medal scales are adapted to each dance, so your progress is carefully charted with each new ballroom dance type you learn and master. Our progress scale rates dancers on figure, timing, lead/follow, and technique. There’s no pressure with the medal system, though. We encourage dancers to learn at their own pace and have as much fun as possible. The medal system exists to help arrange classes of similar abilities and to challenge those who are interested in potentially competing.
